Former V.P. Gore Helps Perriello

Former Vice President turned environmental activist Al Gore is lending his name to Rep. Tom Perriello’s (D-5th) re-election bid.

Gore penned an e-mail to Perriello supporters, asking them to raise at least $5,000 before the current funraising period ends Sept. 30.

“Tom Perriello understands that solving the climate crisis is too important to be put off until after another election,” Gore wrote.

He cited Perriello’s vote for the cap and trade energy bill as a key moment for the freshman Democrat.

“Republicans are spending millions of dollars to try and replace him with someone who will turn the clock back,” the former vice president wrote.

Gore’s complete email is after the jump.

***Update***

The National Republican Congressional Committee’s Andy Sere weighs in on the fundraising message with the following statement:

“Just as Al Gore invented the Internet, Tom Perriello just invented yet another way to prove his liberal elite bone fides. We sincerely hope to see more of the Vice President on the 5th District campaign trail next year.”

Dear  ,

Earlier this year, Congressman Tom Perriello showed the kind of leadership that we need to solve the climate crisis and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and foreign oil.

By helping to pass the American Clean Energy and Security Act, Congressman Perriello showed how committed he is to creating green jobs and getting America running on clean energy. Don’t think for a second that the Republicans haven’t noticed.

September 30th marks a critical fundraising deadline for Congressman Perriello. Considering that the Republicans have put him at the top of their target list in next year’s Midterm Elections, I’m asking for your support to help Congressman Perriello make a powerful show of strength on his September filing deadline.

Please help Congressman Tom Perriello raise $5,000 before Midnight on September 30th. With the media closely watching, your generous gift of $25, $50, or more will help him show early strength and ensure that President Obama has another strong ally in Congress for solving the climate crisis.

Tom Perriello understands that solving the climate crisis is too important to be put off until after another election. Time and again, he has shown his commitment to solving this crisis today, through his words and more importantly through his votes in Congress.

Considering how hard he fights each and every day to help President Obama end all of the failed policies of the past eight years, Republicans are spending millions of dollars to try and replace him with someone who will turn the clock back. He needs our help today.

Please help Congressman Tom Perriello raise $5,000 before Midnight on September 30th. With the media closely watching, your generous gift of $25, $50, or more will help him show early strength and ensure that President Obama has another strong ally in Congress for solving the climate crisis.

As we have learned all too painfully in the past, elections matter a great deal. Please ensure that Congressman Tom Perriello has the resources he needs to continue fighting to protect our planet and keep our country moving in the right direction for years to come.

Thank you.

P.S.  Considering how hard Congressman Tom Perriello fights to solve the climate crisis and rebuild our economy with millions of clean energy jobs, the Republicans have made him a top target for defeat in next year’s midterm elections.  Please help Congressman Tom Perriello raise $5,000 before his critical Midnight FEC deadline on September 30th. The world will be closely watching his fundraising total as an indication of his strength.
