Kaine Swipes at McDonnell on Spending

Gov. Tim Kaine (D) made an interesting comment today during his cost-cutting press conference, as he talked about the importance of minimizing cuts to public schools:

“There’s been some discussion in this time of year — I know it’s campaign season — about various plans to use general fund education dollars to fund things like transportation. Three-and-a-half years of being a governor under tough circumstances tells me that that is a horrible idea. We shouldn’t be going to the education budget to try to fund other priorities.”

Might those “various plans” be ones floated by Republican candidates for statewide office, namely GOP gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell?

Democrats have repeatedly slammed McDonnell and his ticketmates for proposing to use general fund dollars to pay for road projects —  not the current practice in Virginia.

McDonnell says his plan won’t hurt schools to build roads.

What do you think? Was Kaine playing politics during his press conference?
