The Democratic National Committee will pour at least $5 million into the Virginia governors race, as the party hopes to keep momentum gained in previous election cycles. A spokesman made the announcement Wednesday.
The DNC has already given gubernatorial nominee Creigh Deeds $1 million, meaning the remainder of the cash will flow into the race in its final two months.
For the record, this is the same amount the party gave to Gov. Tim Kaine during his 2005 campaign.
This year’s campaign is generally viewed by analysts as a referendum on President Barack Obama and Kaine’s performance as DNC chairman. So don’t be surprised if the party spends more than the $5 million.
