McDonnell Talks Public Safety, Dems Quick to Respond

GOP gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell today rolled out his public safety plan, which seeks to build on initiatives he created as state attorney general.

Speaking to a crowd of police officers in Newport News, McDonnell said he’ll fight for tougher penalties for sex offenders, drug dealers and those who commit domestic violence.

Democrats quickly responded to the proposal, claiming that — during his time in the legislature — McDonnell opposed state budgets which would have given more money to public safety.
