Republican gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell is going back on the air with a widespread television ad buy, his campaign has confirmed.
The spots will start running this week and will stay up through early July. They’ll air in every Virginia media market except the pricey Northern Virginia/DC area.
One industry insider calls the buy “significant.” The spots will start running in Charlottesville on Thursday.
Democratic nominee Creigh Deeds’ campaign has emailed supporters saying McDonnell is running the ads because the GOP candidate is “worried.”
“[McDonnell’s] back is against the wall and now he’s got to remake his record and try to convince voters he’s a moderate,” wrote Deeds’ campaign manager, Joe Abbey.
McDonnell campaign spokeswoman Crystal Cameron delined to comment on the content of the ads.
